Atlanta Falcons attack important needs in 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft
In the second round of this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Atlanta Falcons attack a position of need on the offensive side of the ball. James Carpenter was a weak link on the Falcons’ offensive line last season and they could be looking for an upgrade at the left guard position. Lloyd Cushenberry III primarily played center in college, but he should be able to make an easy transition to guard if needed.
Cushenberry is an extremely smart and athletic offensive line prospect who moves extremely well in space. He does a great job of attacking the second level, getting to the second-level defender quickly and under control. He also shows solid power at the point of attack and can anchor at a relatively high level.
Cushenberry shows a quick first step and impressive overall athletic ability. He should be able to come in and compete for the starting left guard job right away and the Falcons could groom him to be the eventual replacement for Alex Mack at the center position. He is one of the best interior offensive linemen in the class and could be the player who rounds out the offensive line for the Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons have another second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft that they received from the New England Patriots in exchange for Mohamed Sanu. With that extra second-round selection, the Falcons go back to the defensive line and add Marlon Davidson to the mix.
Davidson primarily played on the edge in college. At the combine, Davidson weighed in at 303 pounds. At that size, he is undoubtedly going to be an interior player at the next level. The Falcons addressed their need on the edge by adding Chaisson earlier in this 2020 NFL mock draft and here, they address their need on the interior.
Davidson is incredibly quick and explosive off of the ball and consistently gets strong upfield burst as a pass rusher. It is difficult to predict how he will translate to the next level, but Davidson has an impressive combination of athleticism and power that should make him a dangerous interior rusher in the NFL.
The Falcons already have an explosive interior rusher in Grady Jarrett. Pairing Davidson with him would give the Falcons an incredibly exciting duo that should be able to create consistent pressure from the interior.
