2020 NFL Draft: Potential trade-up targets for the Dallas Cowboys
Round Two
The Dallas Cowboys need to upgrade their entire secondary. We gave them a couple of cornerback targets in round one, but now its time to look at the safeties. LSU safety Grant Delpit could be available at the top of the second round which means Dallas would need to move up quite a bit to secure him.
I’ll never count out Jones’ persistence so trading up this high wouldn’t shock me. Delpit has a lot of talent and was expected to be a top ten pick before the 2019 season, but his stock has been falling ever since the season began. He plays very fast which can be both a hindrance and a positive.
He can miss some tackles trying to get a big-time hit, but that’s just who he is. He has a big presence in the middle of the field which may cause some hesitance by receivers to go up for the football. His versatility and physicality will play well at the next level which may have a positive effect on how the rest of the defense plays.
He brings so much energy to the field that you can feel it through the tv screen. The Dallas Cowboys would be extremely excited to have the chance to take Delpit at the top of round two.
Another safety that has a chance to go round one is Xavier McKinney. In fact, I have seen mock drafts that have the Dallas Cowboys selecting McKinney in round one. I, myself, do not have a first-round grade on any safety, but I do however have many with second-round grades.
If McKinney does not go on day one of the 2020 NFL Draft he will be gone early on day two, so the Cowboys should be aggressive to move up for him. He has great versatility and speed to play in any scheme. He is my number one ranked safety in this class due to the potential that he has.
McKinney could improve his stock in on-field drills at the combine when he shows off his backpedal and burst. The Dallas Cowboys desperately lack a defensive back that can take away the football and McKinney has shown the ability to do that.
As mentioned in the first slide, Dallas needs defensive line help, and Blacklock is one of the best in the class. Ross Blacklock has everything you want to see in a defensive lineman which begs the question of why he has garnered any first-round chatter.
I certainly believe he has first-round talent, so if he’s in reach in the second round, the Dallas Cowboys shouldn’t think twice about moving up for him. He has raw power and the smarts to be very successful at the next level. And with solid coaching, you would see the payoff right away.
