Dallas Cowboys complete seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft
The Dallas Cowboys would undoubtedly love to find a gifted safety to pair with Xavier Woods this offseason. In this 2020 NFL mock draft, Ashtyn Davis out of Cal is the guy.
Davis is an incredibly talented safety prospect who could certainly enter the first-round conversation. I fully expected him to raise his draft stock at the combine this week, but Davis is sitting out the workout portion of the combine. It is certainly in the realm of possibility that he remains a Day 2 prospect who is a realistic option for the Cowboys in the second round.
Based on pure upside and athleticism, there may not be a more exciting defensive player in this draft class than Davis. He is a ridiculously fast and explosive athlete who can make plays all over the field. Davis is a tremendous deep zone defender and physical in-the-box player. Simply put, he is a fantastic playmaker who could immediately make a major impact for the Dallas Cowboys on the defensive side of the ball.
Waiting until the third round to address the cornerback position is not ideal for the Dallas Cowboys. That being said, they have to be willing to let the draft come to them. In this 2020 NFL mock draft, taking Kinlaw and Davis in the first two rounds instead of reaching on a cornerback made much more sense. However, they do get to the cornerback position eventually, snagging Troy Pride Jr. in the third round.
Pride is a long and athletic cornerback prospect who shows fantastic on-field awareness in zone coverage. He reads the quarterback extremely well and shows strong overall ball skills. Pride is also a solid press-man defender who can make life difficult for wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.
Pride would not be an ideal one-for-one replacement for Byron Jones, but he is a talented player who could provide some immediate value for this team. He would be a strong addition for the Dallas Cowboys in the third round.
