HB. Ohio State. player. Pick Analysis. J.K. Dobbins. 39. 59. Scouting Report

2020 Projected Starter: Kalen Ballage

Key Free Agents: N/A

After trading spark plug Kenyan Drake to the Arizona Cardinals, Miami has left itself with a group of inexpensive running backs who can only do so much with their lack of top-end talent and athleticism. Current lead-back Kalen Ballage is a tough runner, but he is not a true three-down back who can lead this offense.

Dobbins would have the perfect opportunity to be a lead back from Day 1, supported by an assortment of players including the beforementioned Ballage as well as Patrick Laird. Miami will likely be expending one of their three first-round selections on a quarterback to lead this offense, and that quarterback would love to have a great shotgun-zone runner like Dobbins complimenting them in the backfield.

Miami has an opportunity to reconfigure their offense with a blank slate and a plethora of draft assets and moving in the direction of the rest of the NFL with a wide-open passing offense and a zone-run game that utilizes spacing would be a perfect platform for Dobbins to dominate from.

Miami is in need of star-power on the offensive side of the football, and Dobbins could be the spark-plug to provide that production. Even with one of the worst offensive lines in football, added star-power with Dobbins and some additions through free agency and the draft could the make difference.
