New York Jets 2020 mock draft: Helping Sam Darnold out
Picking near the top of the second round, the New York Jets are in a rare position to simply let the best receiver on the board fall into their laps.
I have not done many mock draft scenarios in which Tee Higgins falls to round two, but the Jets would undoubtedly not be upset about this.
With the potential of losing Robby Anderson in free agency, the Jets are going to need an alpha in the passing game. They could go out and splurge for someone like Amari Cooper in free agency if the Cowboys let him get there, but this year’s draft crop is more of the main prize than a consolation to missing out in free agency.
Higgins is a big-bodied receiver with some of the most dominant downfield ball skills of any player in his historic position group.
Higgins’ production at Clemson was outstanding, setting a school record with 27 touchdown grabs. There have been some outstanding players to come through the program in recent years, so that’s notable.
Higgins provides Darnold with a reliable downfield target and a huge catch radius.
