Top 3 needs

3. Inside Linebacker

The Giants have not addressed linebacker in the first round since 1984 (Carl Banks) and have needed talent in that position for almost a decade.

Ryan Connelly, former 5th round pick, and Alec Ogletree are very low-end starters at best. They have neglected that position on defense this past year but have a prime opportunity this season to fill that position in free agency and potentially early in the draft.

If the Giants want to buck a trend and take a versatile playmaker early on defense, they have a chance to do so potentially with Isaiah Simmons from Clemson.

2. EDGE Rusher

Markus Golden, a pending free agent, had a breakout year in his first year with the Giants. It could be his last, however, as he fits better in a 3-4 and could be out if their defense leans to a 4-3.

As an edge rusher, he led the Giants with ten sacks and even if he re-signs, they still need more production on the other side. Lorenzo Carter was misused in the defense last year and still has to live up to his potential as a pass rusher.

The Giants could use more depth at edge rusher other than Oshane Ximines, former 3rd round pick. I could see them going after a big name pass rusher in free agency, like Jadeveon Clowney (Seattle Seahawks) or Yannick Ngakoue (Jacksonville Jaguars).

1. Offensive Tackle

Protecting their franchise quarterback should be the number one priority for the Giants. Last season, they did not do a good job of that as Jones was sacked 38 times. Nate Solder, veteran left tackle, was not great as a starter and an upgrade is needed at right tackle as well (with Remmers likely headed to free agency).

Next. 2020 mock draft: Senior Bowl shuffling. dark

They will have many options in free agency (like Jack Conklin) to fill either need but in the draft, the Giants will have their slew of choices at offensive tackle. Jedrick Wills (Alabama), Mekhi Becton (Louisville), Tristan Wirfs (Iowa), and Andrew Thomas (Georgia) could all be in play with the 4th overall pick. It wouldn’t be a Dave Gettleman draft if he doesn’t get his hog molly in the trenches.
