Georgia. Jake Fromm. 26. QB. player. 59. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

2019 Starter: Ryan Fitzpatrick

Measurables: 6-foot-2, 220 pounds

Projected 40 time: 4.77

After investing draft capital at the beginning of the first round into complementing pieces at the offensive tackle and defensive secondary, Miami gets its quarterback later in the first round. With the top three quarterbacks off of the board, Miami’s best option comes as Georgia product Jake Fromm.

Fromm is not going to wow you with his arm strength or athleticism, but he is going to impress many front office staff with his football IQ and ability to lead an offense. Finding rookie quarterbacks to play day one does not rely upon their arm talent, but instead their ability to take care of the ball and make the correct play.

Pick Analysis. TE. Cole Kmet. 36. Scouting Report. Notre Dame. 27. player

2019 Starters: Jacob Hollister, Will Dissly

Measurables: 6-foot-5, 250 pounds

Projected 40 time: 4.68

In a weak tight end class, Seattle could reach at the end of the first to find their solution since the departure of Jimmy Graham. Jacob Hollister made a splash through the end of the season as a serviceable tight end but is not making the splash needed in this vertical Seattle offense. Kmet measures in at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, making him a big target any quarterback would love to have.

Kmet’s ability to create space up the seam and make plays after the catch with his size and speed remind many of a young Rob Gronkowski, a rare breed who should be sought after by any NFL franchise. Kmet could use work in his blocking technique but has the size to be serviceable while he continues to develop.

The Seahawks recently signed Greg Olsen to a one-year deal. Olsen is at the end of his career and will be looking for a ring to add to his resume before he hangs up the cleats. I still believe the selection of Kmet is a perfect fit for this Seahawks roster with his potential and ability to contribute day one alongside the veteran.

Scouting Report. Kenneth Murray. 26. player. Pick Analysis. LB. Oklahoma. 28

2019 Starters: Josh Bynes, Patrick Onwuasor

Measurables: 6-foot-2, 234 pounds

Projected 40 time: 4.65

After losing C.J. Mosley to free agency before the 2019 season, Baltimore has had a hole in the middle of their defense. The middle linebacker position is integral to the run and pass defense, needing a leader with a good football IQ, range and pursuit, as well as consistent tackling.

Kenneth Murray from Oklahoma has put together a good year with 69 tackles (tied-13th). Murray is a classic 4-3 inside linebacker who chases the ball from sideline to sideline as well and can drop into zone coverage. Murray also collected four sacks in the 2019 season, using his explosiveness to get around the edge and beat offensive tackles to the edge. Murray is a dynamic athlete in the middle of the defense who can change the versatility of a linebacking corps.

Scouting Report. Alabama. player. 35. Pick Analysis. EDGE. Terrell Lewis. 29

2019 Starters: Cameron Wake, Harold Landry III

Measurables: 6-foot-5, 254 pounds

Projected 40 time: 4.67

A prototypical 3-4 outside linebacker, Terrell Lewis uses speed and length to get to the outside and blow by opposing tackles. At 6-foot-5, Lewis’ reach is difficult to counter with his speed and strength to get into the chest of the opponent. With a pass-rush arsenal including an outright deadly spin move, Lewis is ready to wreak havoc on NFL offenses from day one.

Alabama has had a history of producing quality players from their front-seven, and Lewis looks to be no different. Tennessee had a surprise playoff run this past postseason on the broad shoulders of Derrick Henry and ended their season in the AFC championship. The revival of Ryan Tannehill gave them a quarterback for the future, and adding defensive edge talent is never a bad thing.

At this point in the first round, Lewis is one of the best players available and will add pass-rush contributions wherever he goes.

Colorado. Laviska Shenault. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 30. player. 49. WR

2019 Starters: Davante Adams, Allen Lazard

Measurables: 6-foot-2, 220 pounds

Projected 40 time: 4.57

The continual struggle to find a second wide receiver behind Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers has lacked that true number two after the departure of Randall Cobb. Young receivers such as Allen Lazard have been serviceable, but do not push this offense over the top. A running offense comprised of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams has been productive in 2019 and should look to continue their success in 2020.

Laviska Shenault could be the player to complement Adams and create another prolific passing offense led by Rodgers. Shenault is a complete wide receiver out of Colorado who found a way to make plays even with average quarterback play from Steve Montez (scouting report found here).

Shenault is not a freak athlete that is going to be an over the top threat every snap but is a refined route runner with strong hands and an understanding of receiving leverage. His ability to make plays after the catch and from the wildcat could also open up a new part of the playbook for head coach Matt LaFleur similar to what Mike McCarthy did with Randall Cobb.

CB. Florida. C.J. Henderson. 31. Scouting Report. player. 42. Pick Analysis

2019 Starters: Richard Sherman, Emmanuel Moseley

Measurables: 6-foot-1, 203 pounds

Projected 40 time: 4.54

After being exposed in the Super Bowl, Richard Sherman and the San Francisco secondary simply could not keep up with the Kansas City Chiefs’ top-end speed. San Francisco has inherited their defensive scheme with Sherman after his signing, moving to a zone defense with cap-coverage and a focus on staying over the top.

C.J. Henderson is a 6-foot-1 corner out of Florida who has excelled in zone coverage and been a leading corner on the Gators defense. The best zone corner of this draft is still Trevon Diggs, but at their draft position, Henderson is still a competitive corner to pair across from Sherman. His ability to read developing routes and break on the quarterback’s eyes make Henderson eerily similar to Sherman in his ability to make plays with his football IQ and explosiveness.

player. 124. Scouting Report. HB. Ohio St. J.K. Dobbins. 32. Pick Analysis

2019 Starter: Damien Williams

Measurables: 5-foot-10, 216 pounds

Projected 40 time: 4.49

The final selection of the first round, the super bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs find a legitimate running mate for Damien Williams. J.K. Dobbins is arguably the top running back in the 2020 NFL Draft alongside D’Andre Swift. His mix of elusiveness, speed, and power make him a tough tackle in open field that can break off a game-breaking play on any touch.

Kansas City is most definitely a passing offense, but have shown some of their best work when bringing the running backs into the offense. If Kansas City is to continue their success, they will need to take some of the pressure off of the shoulders of Patrick Mahomes and create offense from another phase of the offense.
