2020 NFL Draft first-round NFL mock draft: Senior Bowl shuffle
By Ian Higgins
After the Senior Bowl, even the top-end of the 2020 NFL Draft has been mixed and jumbled into a whole new mess. Who are the risers and fallers?
The biggest impact of the Senior Bowl tends to be the middle to late rounds of the draft, as under scouted talent from across the nation culminates into a single week of practice and games as a final showing to NFL scouts in their college letters. Players such as Jordan Love and Van Jefferson put on a show, raising their draft stocks significantly entering the midst of draft-season.
Other 2020 NFL draft talents such as Javon Kinlaw were able to push their way into a guaranteed first-round selection with impressive performances throughout practice and the final showcase. Many prospects are coming from programs that have been washed to the back of college football hidden behind the likes of LSU, Alabama, and Clemson with their already established stars.
This time of the year is when mock drafts begin to come into their own and find the realistic trends of this years first-round. Joe Burrow has been established as the number one overall selection if Cincinnati it to keep the pick, but rumors of trade indicate the Bengals taking a much safer but longer route for their rebuild.
A trade of the number one overall pick would bring in a large yield of draft assets for the near future and the ability to still gain a collection of talent from this year’s 2020 NFL draft.
Teams have begun to build their rosters similarly to the 2018 Los Angeles Rams and young quarterback Jared Goff. Teams realize money can be saved and spend elsewhere throughout the roster by bringing in the franchise quarterback last in a rebuild. By doing this, an entire competitive roster can be developed leading up to the quarterback selection, and his inexpensive rookie contract will give the team a four-year Super Bowl window.
