Cincinnati Bengals: Top positional needs for the 2020 NFL Draft
1. Quarterback
The Cincinnati Bengals have Andy Dalton who has been the Bengals quarterback since the 2011 season. In eleven seasons as the team’s quarterback, he has two seasons where he passed for more than 4,000 yards. Dalton’s best season came back in 2013 when he passed for 4,293 yards and threw for 33 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
It is not Dalton’s fault this team has the number one overall pick in the draft. This team has many holes but finding a franchise quarterback should be their priority in this draft. The Cincinnati Bengals can trade Dalton to gain more picks in the 2020 NFL draft to build their roster for the upcoming season.
Last year, the Bengals found out that Ryan Finley, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, was not the solution and needs more time as the backup. Dalton started the first eight weeks of the season and posted a 0-8 record, then that’s when the Bengals turned to Finley.
In three games, Finley posted 474 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while achieving a quarterback rating of only 23.5. Finley also went 0-3 in those games from week nine through eleven before Dalton came back to finish the rest of the season and only earning two wins.
The Cincinnati Bengals will have their pick of quarterbacks between Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, and Justin Herbert. The most likely pick for the Bengals would be Burrow from LSU, who won the Heisman Trophy and National Championship this past season.
Burrow had a spectacular season last year throwing for 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. The Bengals would be smart to make Burrow their first pick in the draft and bring the Ohio native back home.
