With no first-round draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and a tough cap situation, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have to be smart with whom they bring onboard in 2020.

The Pittsburgh Steelers head into the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft without a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Historically, the first-round pick has served as a bulwark against fan apathy during the offseason. Whether your team won the Super Bowl or went 0-16, you can count on the first-round pick to excite the fan base, seeding hope for a better season ahead.

While most fans feel good about trading the pick to acquire Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins last year, the Steelers organization will still need to work hard this offseason to fill out the roster for 2020.

General Manager Kevin Colbert will have a tough task ahead of him. There are several positions on the Steelers roster that need to be attended to this offseason. Last week, Colbert addressed local media and made it clear that, in his opinion, the quarterback position was not one of them.

With quarterback Ben Roethlisberger coming back in 2020 and Colbert feeling “comfortable” with the team’s back-up quarterbacks, the 2020 NFL Draft does not seem like it will be the year the team decides to draft the heir to Big Ben.

Some fans are worried about what Roethlisberger will look like after suffering a season-ending injury early in the 2019 season. There are some concerns that the veteran quarterback will have a diminished throw next season. It has been reported that Roethlisberger is recovering well from the injury, but only time will tell if the organization made the right decision standing by their longtime quarterback

Several other positions on the roster will need to be addressed in both free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft. According to Spotrac.com, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have 15 free agents heading into the start of free agency this year. They also have the 31st worst cap situation in the NFL, which makes signing free agents all the more tenuous.
