James Bradberry, Cornerback

James Bradberry is coming off a good contract with the Carolina Panthers and is looking to further his career elsewhere. He has good size, speed and length that makes him an attractive cornerback. However, what stands out about him the most is his experience.

He’s only 27, but having played in the NFC South, he’s played against some of the best receivers in the country. He’s spent multiple years matching up against Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Michael Thomas and Chris Godwin; that’s a pretty impressive lineup of wideouts.

The Buccaneers have a young group of defensive backs so adding someone with Bradberry’s experience would do nothing but help that young group. The Tampa Bay secondary struggled at the beginning of the 2019 season but improved after each week. Rookie cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean were impressive last year while Carlton Davis is improving as well.

Signing a talented, veteran corner could allow the Bucs to wait until later rounds in the draft to address the position as well. Just like edge rushers, it’s important to have good cornerbacks on your team. The league is becoming more and more pass-oriented by the year, so having reliable cornerbacks is more necessary than ever.
