2020 NFL Draft: Top offseason needs for the Baltimore Ravens
5. Interior Defensive Line
Similarly with edge and given the Baltimore Ravens reputation as a historically defense-first type of organization, seeing that defensive line is a need may come as a bit of surprise to some. But with Michael Pierce, Domata Peko, Jihad Ward and Justin Ellis all set to become free agents in a few weeks, the Baltimore Ravens find themselves with a lack of depth in the interior.
Additionally, Baltimore’s defensive interior combined for a total of five sacks overall, another issue that could be addressed this offseason.
Returning for next season is Pro Bowler Brandon Williams, fourth-year five-tech Chris Wormley and 2019 fifth-round pick Daylon Mack. Both Williams and Wormely have been reliable players in their roles over the last few years. While Mack, on the other hand, stayed on the inactive list for much of his rookie season, finally seeing action in Week 17 of the 2019 season.
In free agency, the Baltimore Ravens have a few avenues they could take potentially take. They could, of course, take the obvious route and bring back Pierce, however they do not need to necessarily. If Baltimore doesn’t, they could spend a bit more money and bring in players such as Chris Jones or Leonard Williams in order to boost their interior pass rush. Conversely, a few, less expensive options could be in guys like Derek Wolfe, Michael Brockers, or Vernon Butler.
In the draft, Baltimore would most likely look somewhere on Day Three for interior defensive line help unless someone falls to them on Day One or Two. A few names that could be potential fits are Missouri’s Jordan Elliott, Ohio State’s Davon Hamilton, and Arkansas’s McTelvin Agim.
