2020 NFL Draft: Henry Ruggs goes top 10 in first-round NFL mock draft
The Indianapolis Colts fell a bit flat in 2019, as the offense felt held back at the quarterback position. Jacoby Brissett had a hot start but faded down the stretch after his injury. He is under contract for one more season, but it’s hard to imagine he’s the long term solution at the position.
General manager Chris Ballard and the Colts will likely do extensive work on the quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft, and they select one here in Utah State’s Jordan Love. The expectations were high for Love after an awesome 2018 season, but he underwhelmed under head coach Gary Anderson in 2019. He ended the season with 20 touchdown passes and 17 interceptions, leaving with that a bundle of questions.
Love’s arm talent certainly isn’t in question. He can make some ridiculous throws off-platform and out of structure, and throws with excellent touch when he needs to. There’s a reason he’s getting compared to Patrick Mahomes because a lot of what he does is similar. Love needs to work on reading underneath linebackers in coverage and come off of his first read at times. The good news is that the Colts will be a perfect place for him to develop and start when he’s ready.
