player. Scouting Report. 9. 52. Pick Analysis. Heir to the Iron Throne. Clemson. Isaiah Simmons

The Jacksonville Jaguars have two selections in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and they have a chance to get back to where they were defensively as a team in the 2017 season. That season, their defense led them to the AFC Championship game. It will be interesting to see what the Jaguars do regarding Yannick Ngakoue, as rumors have swirled that he may not be back in 2020.

The defense has lost some quality pieces in the last couple of seasons. Linebacker Telvin Smith walked away from football for his health, and there’s no guarantee he will be back. Jacksonville also traded away Pro Bowl corner Jalen Ramsey to the Rams.

Here, the Jaguars select Isaiah Simmons. Simmons is one of the top prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft, no matter what positions he ends up playing. He’s physical and instinctive near the line of scrimmage as a linebacker and strong safety.

Simmons also has the speed and range to play on the back end of the defense at safety and shows enough agility to play some slot corner. Wherever the Jaguars play him, maximizing his strengths will be huge for that defense. Moving him around to create favorable matchups (not to mention as a blizer) will be fun to watch.
