2019 Starting QB: Jameis Winston

Cap Space: $84,989,175

Similarly to the previously mentioned Patriots and Tom Brady, the arrival of Rivers to Tampa Bay hinges on the departure of Jameis Winston. Plenty of mockery has been made about his Lasik eye surgery this offseason, but Winston is by no means a lost cause in the NFL.

After having one of the most prolific seasons as a quarterback in NFL history, there will be at least one team willing to take the chance on him in the open market. Whether that is Tampa Bay via a franchise-tag or ‘prove-it’ or another team entirely is unknown, but the possibility is very real.

Tampa Bay currently sports a competitive receiving corps comprised of rising talent Chris Godwin, bonified star Mike Evans and a brick-handed tight end by the name of O.J. Howard. Bruce Arians was able to bring Winston one of the best seasons of his career with his offense, and Rivers could have a similar result with a new offense under the coaching legend.

Not only Rivers, but the receiving talent in Tampa Bay could derive benefit from the combination of an intelligent veteran paired with Arians’ offense. Tampa Bay has the money to spend to acquire pieces not only on the offensive line to protect Rivers but replace impending lost talent on the defensive end in sack-leader Shaquill Barrett and Ndamukong Suh. A new era could be upon us in Raymond James Stadium.
