Iowa. 22. player. Pick Analysis. DE. AJ Epenesa. 16. Scouting Report

Last year, the Buffalo Bills took interior defensive lineman Ed Oliver with their top pick in the draft.

In this mock draft scenario, they come away with an edge player in AJ Epenesa who could be one of the best values in the draft if he falls this far.

Epenesa isn’t likely to ‘wow’ everyone with athleticism like Chase Young, but I think he’s capable of racking up double-digit sacks and 15-20 tackles for loss every year in the NFL because he’s relentless, has great length, and knocks tackles off their spot with his tremendous hands.

The Bills have a very talented defensive front, but they need to add some youth off the edge. Epenesa certainly accomplishes that and while he’s not flashy all the time, he comes up with big plays more often than not.

The popular pick for the Bills is receiver, but there will be more chances for that in the second round as well. There’s a significant dropoff in edge talent after Epenesa.
