New York Jets 2020 free agent targets: Offensive line help
Cornerback: Mackensie Alexander (Minnesota Vikings) Age 26
The New York Jets must address their cornerback position in free agency. This class is deep and has nice value. Mackensie Alexander can help the depth at the position pushing either Bless Austin or Arthur Maulet down the chart.
Alexander played in 13 games for Minnesota and started four times. He had one interception and five passes defended. He did manage to get half a sack as well as totaling 37 tackles, 29 being solo.
The Jets were forced to start Maulet and Austin, a sixth-round rookie who showed that he can play on Sundays. Gang Green should also focus on re-signing Brian Poole to solidify their secondary.
Cornerback: Trae Waynes (Minnesota Vikings) Age 28
Another free agent option at cornerback is Alexander’s teammate from Minnesota — Trae Waynes. I highly doubt that Minnesota would let both of their cornerbacks walk in free agency, especially since Xavier Rhodes could possibly be a cap casualty.
However, New York should try to bring in whoever shakes loose from the Vikings.
Waynes played 14 games where he started in all of them reeling in an interception and eight passes defended. He also had 2 forced fumbles which shows that he can create turnovers for Gregg Williams‘ defense.
He totaled 58 tackles with 56 of them being solo. With the price tag of both these free agent cornerbacks the New York Jets would be getting fantastic value.
