Cowboys 2020 mock draft: Reloading the defensive backfield
New defensive coordinator Mike Nolan will have the opportunity to create a defense best suited to the pieces he’s able to put in place, and with so many players slated for free agency in Dallas, these new pieces coming in could dictate an attacking, primarily zone coverage defense.
That’s an area where Trevon Diggs excels.
While he certainly showed some of his flaws down the stretch in 2019, Diggs remains a very good prospect with high upside at the next level because of his length and ball skills as a former receiver.
In a zone heavy defense, not only would his former teammate Xavier McKinney excel, but Diggs would be able to read and react instead of play mostly with his back to the quarterback, which isn’t his forte at this point in time.
He can still affect receivers in man coverage and it’s not like he won’t be asked to do it in the NFL.
This fit and this value are tremendous for Dallas.
