28. Former team: Panthers. Cam Newton. player. QB. 1. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock have yet to pick their own quarterback for the Raiders.

As the team transitions to Las Vegas, I’ve looked at a wide variety of scenarios involving Derek Carr getting replaced by anyone from Jalen Hurts to Tua Tagovailoa, and now Cam Newton.

The Panthers aren’t likely to get a great return for Newton, who has been battling injuries the past couple of years, but this is a 30-year old former MVP we’re talking about. I think Jon Gruden would see an opportunity here to keep up with Kansas City by adding one of the biggest difference makers in the NFL on offense over the last 10 years, and build his offense around him.

The Raiders already have an excellent offensive line and running game. Adding someone like Cam Newton would enhance that and the Raiders have two first-round picks to play with in terms of filling out the rest of this roster.

If this trade is made, one of those picks could be utilized on a top-tier wide receiver to pair with Newton and Josh Jacobs.

The Raiders have plenty of options, but entering year three of the Jon Gruden era (part II), it would not surprise me in the last to see the Raiders take a gamble like this, especially because they have to deal with Patrick Mahomes twice a year.

How do you combat that? You have to get someone at QB who can light up the scoreboard. Cam Newton can do that. 2020 NFL free agency will be fascinating this year in Vegas.
