2020 NFL Free Agency: Five teams who should target A.J. Green
By Ian Higgins
New England Patriots
Quarterback: Tom Brady or Jarrett Stidham/Cody Kessler
Wide Receivers: Mohamed Sanu, Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry
Cap Room: $44,127,477
Disclaimer: Green going to the Patriots will be contingent upon Brady’s decision. His Super Bowl Hulu advert may have given us insight but no one will know until the news is broken. If Brady does leave, New England will have questions at quarterback for the first time since 1993 (Drew Bledsoe drafted #1 overall).
For the first time in years, New England was been absent from the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Even with one of the best defenses in the 100 years history of the NFL, Tom Brady was unable to carry his offense to desired heights throughout the entirety of the 2019 season. Mid-season additions of Mohamed Sanu and N’Keal Harry still failed to make up for the absence of Rob Gronkowski.
Every New England fan experienced a similar false-hope to Raiders fans when the one-week experiment of Antonio Brown came to a close due to personal accusations against the wide receiver. A.J. Green could be the next attempt to pair the greatest quarterback of all time (yes, I said that) with a star wide receiver.
The last time that happened, a prime Brady and Randy Moss tore the league to shreds by breaking every single possible record offensively. Even though Brady may not be the same quarterback he was, he is still capable of threading needles and pushing the ball downfield.
Paired alongside a current receiving core of Sanu, Harry, and Edelman, Green would be the final piece via free agency needed to stretch a defense too thin among all of the options Brady has at his disposal. This does not even consider the receiving ability of running back James White and the power-running game led by Georgia product Sony Michel.
