2020 NFL Draft: Saints make big move in 2020 NFL mock draft with trades
This decision was incredibly tough for me. The Jets have numerous needs on their roster and which one to fill at 11 is quite the predicament. The Jets need an edge rusher and the best wide receivers are still on the board, but I fell that above all else they need to prioritize protecting their quarterback.
I haven’t forgotten the whole “seeing ghosts” incident with Sam Darnold against the New England Patriots. The Jets offensive line was terrible last year and they are set to lose both offensive tackles from last year to free agency.
Although there aren’t really any sure-fire pass-protecting left tackles in this draft, Mekhi Becton out of Louisville has all the physical traits to develop into one of the best in the NFL. At 6-foot-7 and nearly 370 lbs, Bechton has an incredible imposing frame. At that size, he is clearly physically dominant, but he also has very light feet.
Becton is still a rather raw prospect, but he continues to improve and has a sky-high ceiling. He has good flexibility and strong hands in pass protection and imposes his will in the run game. If I were the Jets, there isn’t another player in the 2020 NFL Draft that I would rather have to protect Sam Darnold’s blindside, and Bechton really has D’Brickashaw Ferguson-like potential as an NFL left tackle.
The best wide receiver in the draft ends up with the team that arguably needs a wide receiver the most. Jerry Jeudy is the smoothest route runner in the 2020 NFL Draft and would immediately be one of the best receivers at getting open in the league.
While his athleticism doesn’t quite jump off the charts and he has struggled with some drops throughout his Alabama career, Jerry Jeudy really runs some of the best routes that I have ever seen. He has incredibly quick feet that can change direction on a dime and uses his entire body to sell his fakes.
Jeudy is a force with the ball in his hands and is a real deep threat, too. Whether he catches the ball at the line of scrimmage or 60 yards down the field, Jeudy has a nose for the end zone. For a team like the Raiders who need to make a splash for their move to Las Vegas, a guy like Jerry Jeudy is perfect.
Since the Antonio Brown saga last season, the Raiders haven’t had a true number one receiver. Jeudy can be that guy. He reminds me a bit of Brown with his ability to get open and make plays. They aren’t super flashy, but they do the little things well and get the job done.
