2020 NFL Draft: Saints make big move in 2020 NFL mock draft with trades
traded from Tennessee Titans
Here is our third and final trade of this 2020 NFL Draft first-round mock. After grabbing a quarterback early in the first round that can help their team win now, the Los Angeles Chargers go all in and move back into the first round to grab a protector for their new asset.
Like the majority of these first-round tackle prospects, Josh Jones is a physical blocker who excels in the run game. He has great physical traits (size, athleticism and flexibility) as a pass blocker but still needs to refine his technique. But Jones is only scratching the surface and has the potential to develop into one of the best linemen in the league.
Jones is worth moving up for if I am the Chargers, and the Tennessee Titans move back to acquire some more draft picks, allowing them to address a couple of different spots of need in the second round. If I’m the Titans I’m targeting an edge rusher like Jonathan Greenard from Florida and maybe a quarterback like Jalen Hurts in round two.
Linebacker has been a position of need for the Green Bay Packers for quite a while now. Really ever since A.J. Hawk, the Packers really haven’t had that consistent presence in the middle of the field. They tried to move Clay Matthews around to see where he fit best, but with him gone and current solid inside linebacker Blake Martinez scheduled to be a free agent, the Packers address the position in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Like Queen, Kenneth Murray can range sideline-to-sideline and play all three downs. He is more physical as a tackler and blows up plays around the line of scrimmage but isn’t as quick as diagnosing plays. Regardless, if he is given time to develop and plays next to another solid inside linebacker in the Packers 3-4 scheme, Murray could become an impact player at the next level.
After a great turnaround and Super Bowl run for the San Francisco 49ers, there aren’t many holes on this roster. But you can never have too many good cornerbacks.
Trevon Diggs is still a very raw prospect, but he has continued to show improvement throughout his time at the position at Alabama. He is a very long and physical corner with great ball skills from his days as a receiver. The Niners would be a great destination for the young, developing defensive back to sit back and learn while contributing in spots on an outstanding defensive unit.
The Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs hold the final pick of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. With it, they decide to upgrade the interior of their offensive line. MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes has injured early in the season running a quarterback sneak, and the team didn’t run one the entire year after the injury occurred.
Bringing in a guy like Lloyd Cushenberry III may give Mahomes and Andy Reid the confidence they need to go back to that play call. Not that the Chiefs offensive line played poorly in 2019, but they really could upgrade at nearly every position on their line.
Cushenberry is a very smart and athletic player. He is still pretty raw as a prospect but does a lot of things well. He moves really well, had great feet and is powerful at the point of attack after the snap. He would be an upgrade over Austin Reiter at center sooner rather than later or could slide over to left guard where the Chiefs are losing Stefen Wisniewski.
