3. Wide Receiver

Denver Broncos offensive leaders Courtland Sutton and Drew Lock desperately need help. The pair seemed to do it all in when the passing game started clicking late last season. Regardless, it took way too long for it to get going and the Broncos finished with the 28th ranked passing attack after cycling through three quarterbacks in just a few months.

Emmanuel Sanders’ departure to San Francisco in week seven took no time to show its negative impact on the Denver Broncos, as Sanders still finished top three in receiving at the end of the season. And he didn’t even play the second half of the season for the Denver Broncos. Nonetheless, the Denver Broncos finally have a true number one wide receiver to replace Sanders in Sutton.

Sutton did it all last season for the unit. And I mean all. Last season, Sutton had more than 550 receiving yards compared to the next leading teammate, rookie tight end Noah Fant. With this in mind, double coverage is inevitable on Sutton without a second threatening weapon.

The Denver Broncos need another receiver, and second, third wide receivers DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick are not the answer. They need an upgrade at the position, notably at the slot.

Hopefully, if the Broncos enhance the offensive line, then the receivers will have more time for their routes to develop, get open and improve as a whole.

Wide receiver talent lacks in free agency this year, so the Denver Broncos best bet to find another solid weapon would be in the 2020 NFL Draft this April, which is deep with receivers. They really wouldn’t be forced to take one in the first round, especially with three third-round picks in the bag.
