3. Offensive Guard

Similarly to the offensive tackles, the interior of the Chicago Bears offensive line also struggled mightily in 2019. Second-year lineman James Daniels had an up and down season, while Cody Whitehair seemed to be one point of solidarity throughout the year despite moving between guard and center. Now with veteran Kyle Long stepping away from football, the need along the interior has become of the Chicago Bears chief needs.

Daniels and Whitehair are more than likely safe in their positions given their youth, Long’s absence creates a gap at right guard. A shake-up of the depth chart would have former Notre Dame guard Alex Bars taking Long’s place on the right side. With Bars being a player who has yet to cut his teeth as a starting offensive guard in the NFL, the Chicago Bears need to draft a guard as early as possible.

With picks on Day 2 and Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears could look at a number of potential targets. On Day 2, they could look at Solomon Kindley from Georgia, Robert Hunt from Louisiana-Lafayette or Damien Lewis from LSU. While on Day 3 the Chicago Bears could potentially look at Jonah Jackson from Ohio State, Shane Lemieux from Oregon or Ben Bredeson from Michigan.

Adding interior offensive lineman would be another step in ensuring that Trubisky stays consistently upright in 2020 while also giving second-year running back David Montgomery more space to run through.
