2020 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears top offseason needs
2. Offensive Tackle
The Chicago Bears offensive line struggled quite a bit this season, with the spotlight being thrust upon bookends Bobby Massie and Charles Leno. Massie has enjoyed a solid career but has regressed recently while Leno, who was fresh off of a Pro Bowl season in 2018 struggled mightily throughout the 2019 season, provoking the ire of many Bears fans.
While the Chicago Bears could wind up trading either of them to recoup some of the picks they lost in the Mack trade, that may be unlikely. Even if Chicago keeps both Massie and Leno Jr, they could still look to bring in some potential competition.
Most of the top tackles will likely go before the beginning of the third round, with that in mind the Bears would likely use one of their two, second-round selection on an offensive tackle. In the range they’d be selecting, GM Ryan Pace could target Lucas Niang from TCU or Austin Jackson from USC. Conversely, Chicago could look to Day 3 to potentially target guys like Ezra Cleveland of Boise State or Matt Peart from UCONN.
Continuing in the vein of helping their struggling quarterback, the Chicago Bears need to help give Trubisky time in the pocket if they want him to succeed long-term. While the Bears could look at bringing in another tackle via free agency, the free agency class at the position isn’t particularly strong this year and Chicago posses a limited budget.
