2020 NFL Draft Prediction: Second-Fourth Round

It is tough to estimate where Eason will go in the 2020 NFL Draft since it is impossible to know if scouts and general managers will hold his disappointing college career against him.

It sounds good when you hear a scouting department will look past things like injuries, below-average offensive weapons and lackluster play-calling. But if you want to see short-sighted drafting from general managers, just look back on every spoiled draft pick in the NFL’s history. There is plenty to see, so bring a snack.

Eason is going to be a steal for some team, as I expect with such a strong quarterback draft class, he will be disregarded as a “developmental quarterback”. He may not have the track record to justify a first-round selection. But surely a scout somewhere can see the raw talent this kid has, right? In the 2020 NFL Draft coverage, Eason’s name is barely brought up.

The New England Patriots would make perfect sense for Eason. Bill Belichick has a history of drafting players most of the NFL ignores and then sets them loose, leaving fan bases across the NFL to exclaim “Why didn’t WE draft him in the third round?”.

Can’t you see it now? Tom Brady comes back for one more year, with Eason in the wings, learning the Patriots offense from one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. Eason could spend 2020 getting comfortable with an NFL offensive unit.

Then, five years later, you see Eason’s smiling face on the front of a newspaper, with his second Super Bowl ring, confetti raining down around him. The headline reads “How did so many teams miss this guy?”, as Netflix begins shooting a documentary called “The Eason 7”, modeled after “The Brady 6”.

Or he’ll get drafted by the Denver Broncos because John Elway loves drafting tall quarterbacks. In the 2020 NFL Draft, Eason is liable to be drafted as early as the second round and as late as the fourth. It will all depend on what lens NFL scouts view his senior season.
