Edge Rusher

The New York Jets haven’t been able to get to the quarterback consistently since the days of Shaun Ellis and Calvin Pace. They have lacked a legit pass rusher since John Abraham was traded to Atlanta after the 2005 season.

They have had solid guys like Jordan Jenkins, but he just hasn’t been a guy who creates consistent pressure on the passer. Jenkins is an upcoming free agent who may price out the Jets on the open market. He finished 2019 with a career-high eight sacks. The fact that his sack total has increased every season he has been in the league is promising, but the Jets need a legit double-digit sacks guy that can pose a threat on every play.

The good news for Jets fans is that there are plenty of upgrades available in free agency and the draft. The price tags may be high for some, but there should be value deals available on day two of free agency. As for the draft, Jets fans would probably sour on another defensive lineman being taken in the first round, however there are guys that can have an impact on day two of the draft.

Free Agent Targets: Dante Fowler Jr., Shaquil Barrett (market value), Bud Dupree (market value), Chris Jones (market value), Yannick Ngakoue (market value)

2020 NFL Draft Targets: K’Lavon Chaisson LSU (Round 1), Julian Okwara Notre Dame (Round 2), Zack Baun Wisconsin (Day 2), Bradlee Anae Utah (Day 2)
