Outlining New York Jets team needs prior to free agency
Outlining the New York Jets team needs before free agency arrives in just over a month.
The New York Jets began their offseason planning a long time ago when their season ended after a Week 17 win against the Buffalo Bills backups. It was a disappointing season for the Jets and head coach Adam Gase. They teased their fans many times during the season of what they can actually be. An offensive “juggernaut” as Sam Darnold called it following a beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys. Darnold threw for 338 yards with two touchdowns and a pick in that contest.
The next week everything went backward. Darnold looked scared and lost against Belichick and the Patriots defense. An ESPN camera and microphone picked up Darnold saying that he was “seeing ghosts”. He had four interceptions in the game. This started a big media story that got overblown, but he was eventually able to get back on track.
He had another poor performance in Jacksonville the next week throwing three more interceptions. The Jaguars mascot even dressed up as a ghost and flew over the stadium. Throwing seven total interceptions in two weeks was a lot to overcome, but Darnold proved his resilience. He would go on to throw just five interceptions the last nine games never throwing more than one in a game.
The New York Jets have a ton of holes to fill on both sides of the ball and they’ll need a full offseason of scouting NFL talent as well as college prospects. Joe Douglas is in his first offseason as general manager of the Jets and must work together with Gase to form a team that can compete for the division and more.
I will be listing the New York Jets’ needs heading into the offseason. Free agency is just over a month away and we will look at some specific players the Jets could target on the open market. There will also be some 2020 NFL Draft targets the team should consider.
