Miami Dolphins 7-round mock draft: Loading up for a 2020 run
The Miami Dolphins have the best offseason assets of any team in the NFL in 2020. How can they use the 2020 NFL Draft to make a run?
The Miami Dolphins were borderline the laughing stock of the NFL about a year ago.
Pretty much everyone thought they were going to be ‘tanking’ for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa based on the way they were absolutely blowing up their roster, trading player after player and proving they were committed to a long-term process with new head coach Brian Flores.
Miami’s commitment to the process was admirable, but even more so was the job head coach Brian Flores did with the roster he was given.
The Dolphins ‘won’ their way out of the top overall pick conversation, but may have still done enough to get Tua Tagovailoa, who as fate would have it won’t be the consensus top quarterback in this class as originally thought.
The Dolphins will have some fun times dreaming as a staff over the course of the next month with the cap space and draft assets at their disposal. This chart reflects the fact that no team in the NFL has more in terms of valuable draft assets and overall cap space assets than the Dolphins do.
If only the Dolphins had the benefit of pitching Tua to prospective free agents, they might be in ideal position this offseason.
Such as it is, the Dolphins are currently poised to offer free agents the opportunity to play for a really good coach in a desirable location with tax-free income.
They don’t have to go and spend all that money this year, either. If the Dolphins can put together a draft class like the one I’m projecting here, attracting future free agents should be no issue whatsoever.
With that said, they should be able to get some good players to commit to their process — for a price — before they assemble what will be an absolutely critical rookie class.
Let’s see how the Dolphins could make a run in 2020 if all they had was the 2020 NFL Draft.
