Kansas City Chiefs 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft after Super Bowl victory
While the running game isn’t necessarily a problem for the Kansas City Chiefs, they were one of just four teams in the NFL that did not have a player rush for over 500 yards. Damien Williams has played well at times, but they could really use another playmaker in the backfield. So with the 64th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Chiefs take the SEC’s leading rusher in 2019, Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Edwards-Helaire flew under the radar for most of the LSU Tigers National Championship run this season but as time went on, his popularity grew among draft circles.
He is only listed at 5-foot-8 but Helaire has legitimate three-down stuff. His balance may be the best in this class and he shows it off often with his penchant for bouncing off would-be tacklers. He certainly won’t set any records in terms of straight-line speed, but he has plenty of juice to get to the second level.
While that may be reason enough to take him at this spot, it’s his ability in the passing game that makes him a great fit in Kansas City. Helaire caught 55 balls in his final season with the Tigers for 453 yards, showing off soft hands and an ability to consistently make the first man miss.
I love the fit here and think the Chiefs should sprint to enter this pick if he’ still on the board at the end of the second round.
