2020 NFL Draft: Denver Broncos trade-up targets and scenarios
By Jason Truitt
The Lions have tons of holes to fill, so enticing them to trade out of the third spot is possible. The days of Denver Broncos veteran cornerback Chris Harris Jr. are seeming to dwindle and Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah could very well replicate that production if Harris was to truly depart Mile High. The trade might seem costly, but I think it’s worth it for someone of Okudah’s upside.
Okudah has placed himself into the top five conversation for the 2020 NFL Draft, and rightfully so. Ohio State is known for constantly shipping out first-round defensive backs to the NFL, but Okudah may be the best Buckeye cornerback from the decade.
He obtains exceptional ball skills and man coverage ability. He can press, succeed in zone, undercut routes and keep up with the fastest of receivers. Okudah knows how to force his long arms into the hands of the receiver to break up passes with aid from his tremendous ball awareness. His closing speed is the most noteworthy aspect. One moment, the receiver looks open and the next moment, Okudah is on the money.
If Harris was to leave the Broncos, then the new set of corners on the outside would be Isaac Yiadom and Devontae Harris. When needed, this pair under-performed last season and would be hard to trust in an AFC West division where you play the league’s current best passing attack twice a year. If the Broncos don’t upgrade via free agency, then selecting a trustworthy, athletic cornerback high in 2020 NFL Draft would be imperative.
