Miami Dolphins 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Building a strong base
As long as the medicals check out, Tua Tagovailoa is likely to be the number one target for the Miami Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft. Miami may not be able to stand pat and take him at number five, but luckily, they have more than enough draft capital to trade up make a move for Tagovailoa if necessary.
The most common trade scenario that has been talked about is the Dolphins trading up from five to three with the Detroit Lions to secure the services of their new franchise quarterback.
Neither the Lions at three or Giants at four will likely take a quarterback. However both the Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers, picking six and seven respectively, could be significant threats to trade up and snag Tua. I also wouldn’t count out a team like the Las Vegas Raiders making a move up for the talented Alabama quarterback. With this in mind, the Miami Dolphins may have to get aggressive if they want to guarantee the selection of Tua.
All of that being said, in this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Dolphins are able to stand pat and snag their franchise quarterback.
Tagovailoa is an incredibly accurate quarterback prospect who can place the ball on a dime. He shows tremendous natural touch on his passes and knows how to stick the ball in tight spaces. Tua does not have the most natural arm talent, but he has enough to make any throw on the field. He is also a smart player who reads the field well and can create a bit off-script.
Simply put, if it were not for injuries, Tagovailoa would legitimately threaten Joe Burrow to be the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, durability is a major concern with this prospect and it and makes him a risky prospect. The Miami Dolphins swing for the fences here and find a legitimate franchise quarterback to build their foundation around.
