Round 4, No. 101 Overall: Saadhiq Charles, OT, LSU

Like we’ve discussed, the offensive line of the Houston Texans is far from a finished product. We don’t know how Tytus Howard and Max Scharping will turn out. The best-case scenario for Houston right now is that they make progress this year, whether it be at tackle or guard. The issue is that isn’t enough to protect DeShaun Watson.

So let’s give Howard and Scharping some incentive to get things figured out. Houston selects LSU tackle Saadhiq Charles here. While it was surprising to see him enter the draft, Charles has a strong lower half, a good anchor in pass protection, and solid all-around movement skills as a tackle.

Round 4, No. 121 Overall: James Lynch, DL, Baylor

Is the defensive line a big need for Houston? I’d argue that they could use more horses up front in their 3-4 look. While J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus are very good pieces, they have both dealt with injuries. Charles Omenihu is also still a work in progress.

Adding Baylor’s James Lynch would be a fun proposition here. Lynch would operate well as a three-technique in this 3-4 scheme and move around as Watt does. There’s definitely pass rush upside with Lynch, as he put up 13.5 sacks for the Baylor Bears in 2019.
