2020 NFL Mock Draft: Indianapolis Colts find their franchise quarterback
21. Philadelphia Eagles: Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State
Now the wide receivers keep flying off the board after the Jaguars made the first domino fall. The Eagles need receiver depth as it was shown in their playoff loss at home this season.
Like the Jags, the Eagles have quality receivers on their roster but are looking for a future number one and star at the position. With this being the most dominant position in the early rounds, the Eagles find their guy in Aiyuk.
Aiyuk has some injury concerns but I still see him as a first-round talent. He has an explosive element that will keep wide receivers needy teams looking to grab him in the first round.
22. Buffalo Bills: Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson
The third wide receiver taken off the board in a row and the Bills get a top target for Josh Allen. Tee Higgins has the size that Buffalo is looking for to add to the group of speedy and short receivers.
Higgins is listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and is what Allen needs in a receiver. Higgins can also separate himself from defenders and has a 19.8 yard per catch ratio. He had 1,167 yards last season and scored 13 touchdowns for the Tigers.
The Bills also need a cornerback and an interior defensive lineman but with so much depth at the receiver position, they need to empathize this as a priority in round one and get their guy.
23. New England Patriots: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
The fourth quarterback that is taken off the board is Justin Herbert. I am not sure if he will actually fall this far, but with teams filling other positional needs, Herbert finds his way to New England. The Patriots have to start thinking about life after Tom Brady, whether he plays for the Pats next year or not.
Herbert is a solid quarterback that has gotten better each of his four seasons at Oregon. He has great accuracy and vision and will fit in New England well. He had his most yards and touchdowns a year ago with 3,471 yards and 32 touchdowns.
The Patriots may have to trade up to actually land Herbert, but in this 2020 NFL mock draft, he is there for the taking.
24. New Orleans Saints: Laviska Shenault, WR, Colorado
The seventh wide receiver on the night is taken off the board by the New Orleans Saints and will pair nicely next to Michael Thomas. Having two great receivers and a top running back in place would be great for whoever is quarterbacking this team.
Laviska Shenault’s stats went down in 2019 quite a bit from 2018, though he has the size and physicality to get open and make plays. I believe Shenault is worthy of a first-round pick and he will fit the Saints offense well.
Other needs for the Saints are linebacker, interior defensive lineman and a quarterback to take over for Drew Brees. Though I believe they can rely on Teddy Bridgewater for a couple of seasons if needed.
