2020 NFL Mock Draft: Indianapolis Colts find their franchise quarterback
5. Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
Everyone expected the Dolphins to be the worst team in football last year. Instead, they fought hard and landed the fifth pick in the draft. The tank for Tua, who everyone believed he would go number one, still lands with the Dolphins in this 2020 NFL mock draft.
This is the Dolphins biggest need this offseason, even though Ryan Fitzpatrick did a good job with little talent on this roster, a franchise quarterback is a must. The only thing holding back the Dolphins from taking Tua with this pick is if another quarterback-needy team jumps above them.
Tagovailoa has some injury concerns which caused him to miss some time this past season, but the Dolphins are the best fit for his services. I can’t see this pick going in any other direction for this team if Tua is on the board.
6. Los Angeles Chargers: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
The Los Angeles Chargers are another team that could look for a franchise quarterback for life beyond Phillip Rivers. However, with Burrow and Tagovailoa off of the board in this 2020 NFL mock draft, they decide to go with an offensive tackle. It also wouldn’t surprise me if the Chargers decide to trade up or trade down out of this slot.
If they trade up it would most likely be for a quarterback but if they trade down they could go in many directions on either side of the ball. The Chargers grab Mekhi Becton instead here, because he is the best offensive tackle in this class and is comparable to players like Bryant McKinnie or Trent Brown.
Becton has rare athleticism for a 6-foot-7 369-pound man. He moves well for his size and can dominate the opponent with his strength. A solid lineman for the Chargers who will then look to add a quarterback in round two.
7. Carolina Panthers: Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina
The Panthers are another team that could look towards the quarterback position but ultimately I believe they continue with Kyle Allen for another season. Interior linemen are a bigger concern for this team.
Their current interior defensive linemen are Kyle Love who is 33-years-old and Dontari Poe who is 29. They need to get younger at the position and well they have other needs Kinlaw fits the bill well.
Kinlaw is the second-best defensive tackle on the class and has improved each season in college. Now, he gets to play close to home and makes the short drive from South Carolina up to Charlotte next season.
8. Arizona Cardinals: CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma
After the Cardinals landed their quarterback of the future in last year’s draft, they get Kyler Murray a top receiving prospect in this 2020 NFL mock draft. CeeDee Lamb is the best wide receiver of the bunch and is the first of many wide receivers to hear their name called in the first round.
Lamb exploded this past season which is why I have him as the best receiver in the class. Even with up and down quarterback play, he put up great numbers. He had career highs last year with 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns on 62 receptions. He also averaged 21.4 yards per catch.
Arizona gets its number one receiver for life after Larry Fitzgerald and Lamb should explode in Kliff Kliffbury’s offense. One thing to also really like about Lamb is he makes difficult catches look easy.
