2020 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers top five first-round targets
By Ian Higgins
Current OLB’s: Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith, Rashan Gary
After a successful 2019 pass-rush behind rookie Rashan Gary, Green Bay needs to continue to add edge talent for against both the pass and the run. Collecting edge talent is never a bad idea (ex: 2019 San Francisco 49ers) and can create a multi-head pass-rush that draws the offensive line’s attention to too many talents.
Terrell Lewis is a unique pass-rusher who possesses a combination of size and speed that makes him a conventional 3-4 outside pass-rusher who can also stand-up against the run and show off a variety of polished pass-rushing moves. Lewis is a player who does focus more on his power than his speed when going one-on-one on the outside but is more than capable of using his burst and speed to blow-by defenders on stunts.
One of his noticeable favorites has been the inside-spin, but instead of using pure speed to go past a defender, he is able to push hip backside into the tackle to create leverage and push them out of the rushing lane. This kind of power paired with technique makes Lewis a nightmare to match up against due to his ability to play the leverage game.
Lewis is a pass-rusher who should be able to contribute from day one and can add a unique dimension to Green Bay’s pass-rush that is only matched by other top edge players in the 2020 NFL Draft. If a team is not adding talent to their pass-rush, they become stale and don’t produce on the same level. Lewis is a great compliment to the current pieces in Green Bay and can make a difference at the next level.
