2020 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers top five first-round targets
By Ian Higgins
Current WR’s: Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Geronimo Allison
Having troubles finding a true number two receiver behind Davante Adams since the loss of Randall Cobb to the Dallas Cowboys, Aaron Rodgers would love to have a second true talent on the outside to relieve some of the pressure to make highlight plays. Jimmy Graham has been a helpful presence, but defenses have still been able to key-in on Adams to disrupt the Packers offense.
As one of the most underrated wideouts in the 2020 NFL draft, Laviska Shenault Jr. has impressed with his tape at Colorado but lacked the exposure to compete with the likes of Jerry Jeudy, Ceedee Lamb, or Henry Ruggs. With 6-foot-2 size and a 40 time of 4.59 coming out of high school in 2017, Shenault does not possess elite size or speed but takes a combination of the two with polished technique and produces.
Shenault does well to break off of press coverage at the line of scrimmage and adjusts his downfield routes to find gaps in coverage, making the most of what size and speed he has. With the ball in hand, Shenault is capable of making plays but cannot rival the explosiveness of other 2020 NFL draft prospects such as CeeDee Lamb or Jalen Reagor.
After numerous failed attempts at adding talented targets for Rodgers, Green Bay reaches crunch-time on finding the #2 to Davante Adams. Allen Lazard and Geronimo Allison have made respectable contributions, but lack the true playmaking to push this offense over the top and relieve Rodgers of his immense pressure.
