2019 NFL Draft: First-round re-draft where Patriots and Steelers grab QBs
Original pick: Jonathan Abram, Safety, Mississippi State
And the Raiders still get their guy! Mike Mayock, Jon Gruden and the Raiders clearly really, really liked Clelin Ferrell to take him fourth overall when he was projected much lower by most evaluators.
Although he may not have lived up to that top-five selection, Ferrell certainly didn’t have a bad season. With 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, eight QB hits, 38 total tackles and five pass deflections, Ferrell played well overall. I’m sure the Raiders organization wasn’t displeased with his performance as a rookie and would be happy to get him with their third and final first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Original pick: Jerry Tillery, Defensive Lineman, Notre Dame
As I stated earlier with the Vikings pick, center is a very underrated position in the NFL. These guys play a huge role in the offense and having a good one is instrumental to success. Erik McCoy was drafted in the second round by the New Orleans Saints. He then started every single game for the Saints, playing almost every single snap on the season.
Like Bradbury for the Vikings, McCoy helped lead one of the best offenses in the NFL and started a playoff game as a rookie. Meanwhile, the Chargers earned the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Overall, the Chargers offensive line is still a weak point and adding a very solid young player like McCoy in the middle would be a great move to help turn things around. Original pick, Jerry Tillery, had just two sacks and 17 total tackles as a rookie, so going in a different direction is a must.
