Two-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Where will the top players land?
If you watched any of the Eagles’ 2019 season you could see the lack of talent at the receiver position. Alshon Jeffrey was hurt all the time and Nelson Agholor was missed for the season. They were rolling guys out that I’ve never even heard of. The only player I knew was J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and he was a bit of a disappointment.
Laviska Shenault Jr. has the size and speed that could make him a big break out star at the next level. He does have solid hands, but may need to work on his route running. He was used everywhere on offense for Colorado. He was asked to run the football a lot, but wasn’t asked to run a ton of traditional routes.
With some coaching and the talent of Carson Wentz, Shenault could start right away as a go-to target. The Eagles have shown to a willingness to run some creative plays which is a big reason it would be fun to imagine Shenault in this offense.
The Buffalo Bills had a surprising season which saw them compete in the Playoffs, but were eliminated by the Texans in the Wild Card round. Josh Allen had an up and down playoff game and is a big reason why they lost. However, I am still a firm believer in him. With some more weapons around him, specifically a receiver with a large catch radius.
Clemson wide receiver Tee Higgins possesses the physical tools that Buffalo should be looking for. He stands at 6-foot-4 and 216 pounds and has a large catch radius that would allow him to snag any pass from Allen that may not be precise. Allen could rely on Higgins a ton in pressure situations if nobody can break free and if there’s no running room. Higgins has the ability to win at 50/50 balls as he high points the football with his mitt-like hands.
Higgins isn’t the fastest receiver in the draft, but he has shown the ability to run away from defenders. He should be a big player and target in the red zone. Bills fans could have fun watching him go up for the ball in the end zone.
There are a lot of questions regarding whether or not Tom Brady will be back in New England and it’s hard to imagine him not in a Patriots uniform. Bill Belichick and company need to focus on improving the team around whoever is the quarterback, but not in the first round.
Here they select Alabama pass rusher Terrell Lewis. The Patriots defense was ranked in the top of the league, but mainly due to their secondary. They no longer had a player that could get after the quarterback after Flowers left to Detroit. Belichick has a strong relationship with Nick Saban and I could bet that they’ll be conversations about former Bama players.
Terrell could be a perfect fit for New England’s defense. They do have former Michigan edge rusher Chase Winovich whom they have been grooming slowing. Pairing them two on the edge wouldn’t be a terrible idea. The Patriots still have a ton of holes to fill on the offensive side of the ball, but they have plenty of picks to address that later on and the receiver and tight end class is extremely deep with talent.
