Two-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Where will the top players land?
Jets general manager Joe Douglas is running his first offseason after being hired in June. He will be tasked with putting the necessary pieces around quarterback Sam Darnold. The most glaring need for the Jets is undoubtedly multiple offensive lineman. They quite possibly may need five new starter on their offensive line.
The only problem is the best tackle on the board is Andrew Thomas, who I am not very high on. I’ve been watching as much tape humanly possible on this offensive line class and believe the Jets can find better value in the second round. Instead, the Jets take the best offensive player on the board and it just so happens to be Jerry Jeudy.
The Alabama receiver is arguably the number one wide receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft class and Darnold desperately needs pass catchers. Robby Anderson, who has been the Jets number one receiver is set to become a free agent and will likely price out the Jets. The reality is New York hasn’t had a player like Jeudy quite honestly since Keyshawn Johnson was taken number one overall in 1994.
Jeudy’s route running is as advanced as I’ve ever seen from a college prospect. He has very reliable hands and possess the speed to break away after the catch. Some fans may be upset that this isn’t a pass protector but they’ll be happy once they see Jeudy catching passes from Darnold.
The Raiders will officially be playing games in Las Vegas for the 2020 season and beyond. Some people may want a new quarterback here, but there has been some loud speculation that a certain six-time Super Champion could be making Vegas his new home.
The Raiders need some help in their secondary especially after they traded Gareon Conley during the season. LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton is the highest-rated defensive back on the board and has potential to be an all-pro at his position. John Gruden will have another pick later in the first round to improve on the offensive side of the ball. Mike Mayock is heading into his second offseason as general manager and could continue to build nicely in the draft. He did a solid job last season taking running back Josh Jacobs with one of his three first-round picks.
Chris Ballard has done a phenomenal job building this team up from the ground. Andrew Luck shockingly retired during the preseason and the Colts were forced to turn to Jacoby Brissett as the starting quarterback. Brissett wasn’t awful, but it’s unrealistic to think of him as a legit starting quarterback.
Jordan Love has been impressing so far down in Mobile for the Senior Bowl practices and could see his stock grow even more. Indianapolis is stacked with draft capital which could allow them to add more offensive weapons such as a receiver on day two. Brissett and Love could have a healthy competition for the starting job.
The Buccaneers desperately need a quarterback so I could see them moving up for one of the top quarterbacks but in this scenario there is no trades and no quarterbacks worth taken here. With that being said Tampa will take the best player available and that’s defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw.
Kinlaw is currently dominating the Senior Bowl practices and by the time this comes out he probably already dominated in the game. The Buccaneers could pair Kinlaw and Vita Vea together to form a strong interior connection. Kinlaw explodes off the line showing really good timing. He could absolutely dominate guards and centers at the next level.
There are probably more pressing needs for the Bucs, but Kinlaw is just too good of a player to pass up. Tampa could look in the second round for their quarterback.
