2. 58. Scouting Report. Chase Young. Ohio State. player. Pick Analysis. Defensive End

Everyone should already know who the Washington Redskins will select with the second pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Chase Young is the best pass rusher to enter the draft, well, since last year when his former teammate Nick Bosa went second overall to the San Francisco 49ers.

Washington has new leadership with Ron Rivera taking over as head coach after he was fired from Carolina at the back end of the season. Rivera is one of the most respected coaches in all of football. He’s well-liked and respected by current and former players that have played for him. Rivera will be in charge of all football operations, meaning he’ll be the one to ultimately make this selection.

Joining his staff as the defensive coordinator will be Jack Del Rio. Del Rio is a great defensive mind and was the coordinator for the 2015 Broncos defense that led Denver all the way to their Super Bowl 50 victory. Del Rio would leave after the season to become the head coach for the Raiders. He had some early success but was eventually canned for John Gruden.

Washington will switch from 3-4 to a 4-3 base under Del Rio. This should benefit the defensive lineman who are already on the team. Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne could raise their production in this attacking scheme. Adding Chase Young opposite 2019 first-round pick Montez Sweat could prove to be one of the most feared defensive lines in all of football. Ryan Kerrigan had a down year and could improve in his walk year. He’ll be a free agent after the 2020 season.

Young finished his collegiate career with 30.5 sacks and 16.5 of them came in 2019. Those 16.5 sacks were the most in college football. Washington will be getting a determined player that never takes any plays off. Like Bosa did with the Niners, Young could make a big impact in his first year in D.C.

There are some that will say Young will be even better than the Bosa brothers, which is saying a lot. The brothers are two of the very best pass rushers in the NFL. Young is bigger and stronger than the two and had to fight over double teams and sometimes triple teams to get to the quarterback.
