The Dallas Cowboys have glaring holes in their secondary and need to address this early in the draft. Alabama safety Xavier McKinney can step right into the Cowboys secondary with little issues. He can do it all from covering man to man to coming up in the box to make a tackle. He has even shown to be an effective blitzer.

If you want a comparison from me I’d say I see a combination of Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jamal Adams. All three have versatility in their game that you do not see in many safeties. When Adams was entering the league back in 2017 he faced many questions about his range, or lack thereof. He began to slam the door on those questions with an impressive scouting combine, yet he dropped in the draft to the Jets at sixth overall.

Xavier McKinney has faced the same questions about his range and could break away from it with a nice showing in the 2020 NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

There’s been some debate whether McKinney is the top safety in the draft or if that title belongs to LSU safety Grant Delpit. I have to admit that Delpit was the highest-rated defensive back for me entering the season, but he just did not meet my expectations. McKinney has shown all season the versatility he can bring to a team’s defensive backfield and that’s the reason I went McKinney over Delpit.

There’s also a chance that Delpit won’t be here when the Dallas Cowboys are on the clock. A team could fall in love with his abilities as they comb through the tape of his collegiate career.
