2020 Senior Bowl RB Preview: Vaughn, Perine lead solid group
Antonio Gibson, Memphis
Antonio Gibson might be the most fun player on offense at the Senior Bowl. He was a jack of all trades in the Memphis offense, getting significant reps as a running back and a wide receiver. He averaged 11 yards per carry in 2019 and caught 38 passes for 735 yards as well.
Gibson is a big play waiting to happen, and it will be interesting to see how he will be viewed in practices. It’s a good guess to infer he gets reps in both spots. However, due to a lack of a route tree, his best position is likely running back where he can use his speed and quickness.
JaMycal Hasty, Baylor
There isn’t much talk at all about JaMycal Hasty, and many were surprised to hear him accept an invite for the Senior Bowl, purely because people didn’t know much about him, even though he had 109 carries this past season for the Baylor Bears.
When you watch him play, it’s immediately evident that the looks smooth as a runner and can make some defenders look silly. It’s also important to note that he had 25-plus catches in each of his last three seasons, proof that he’s trusted in the passing game.
Joshua Kelley, UCLA
UCLA running back Joshua Kelley was a late add to the roster, but that doesn’t mean he’s low on talent. Kelley is a tough runner with good quickness, and he has a dozen rushing touchdowns in each of his last two seasons. Kelley gets a great opportunity to show he can be the top back down in Mobile, and some analysts have him at the top of the group heading in.
