2. player. Ohio State. Chase Young. EDGE. 58. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

This pick should be almost as clear as Burrow going number one. If Burrow is overall prospect 1A, Chase Young is 1B. If not for Burrow’s incredible season, Young would likely be the first player off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft and is still regarded as the top prospect by many evaluators.

With a solid young core on their defensive line already, Chase Young would be an incredible addition to a talented group for a new, defensive-minded head coach in Ron Rivera. Now with Rivera and veteran defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio taking over and switching the defense to a 4-3 scheme, Chase Young, Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne and Montez Sweat will be a nightmare for opposing coaches, quarterbacks and offensive lines.

Adopting a similar mentality to that of the San Francisco 49ers wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Redskins turnaround attempt in Washington. Loading up with first-round picks on the defensive line worked for John Lynch and company in the Bay, why not for Coach Rivera in the nation’s capital?

Obviously Washington has a long way to go before they can reach the Niners level, but they have a lot of young talent on their roster. If Dwayne Haskins develops into a quality starting quarterback, Derrius Guice stays healthy to lead the rushing attack and they continue to transform their defense into one of the best in the league, they might just have a formula for success.

The addition of his former Buckeye teammate would be great for Haskins. While he won’t be catching passes or protecting him for being sacked, Chase Young and his playmaking ability should give Haskins a lot of opportunity with short fields, and general opportunities to win some low scoring games.

Young led the nation in both sacks and forced fumbles this season despite missing two games due to suspension. Towards the end of the season, Young warranted two and sometimes three blockers at a time to slow him down. From a school that has seen its fair share of elite pass rushers, Young may be the best of them all.
