The Kansas City Chiefs have been a force to be reckoned with for two seasons now under the reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes. Now while many people say that cornerback or running back should be what they target with their first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, I think they need to jump on the opportunity to upgrade their offensive line.

The quickest way for the Chiefs season to plummet would be if Mahomes got injured. Sure, they maintained without him this season for a few games, but I doubt anyone wants to test their chances again. They need to protect Mahomes the best they can, and maybe help their run game while they’re at it.

Nick Harris would come in and immediately be an upgrade at center. He has all the physical tools that you look for in an interior lineman. He is big, powerful, agile and dominant. He has heavy hands that lockdown defenders for the duration of the play. He moves very well when pulling or moving to the second level and would open holes for whoever is running the ball for the Chiefs.

The turnaround that the 49ers have made in recent seasons has been incredibly impressive. They have built around a very talented defense, a solid run game and a passing game that can get it done when they need to. So at this point, San Francisco doesn’t really have any glaring holes on their roster right now.

So in that case, they can afford to look ahead a bit. If they look a year or two down the line, they probably envision life without veteran left tackle Joe Staley. By drafting Austin Jackson here, they can develop him into their heir apparent at left tackle or right tackle if they’d rather move 2018 first-rounder Mike McGlinchey over when Staley does hang it up.

Either way, Jackson has incredible potential as a pass protector. He already has great technique with outstanding footwork. He has an optimal frame for a tackle with fantastic length that he can use to his advantage. Giving him the opportunity to work with Staley before he retires would allow him to work out some of the kinks in his game and prepare him to be a starter in the very near future.
