Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Offensive Tackle. Iowa. Tristan Wirfs. 10. player. 53

What a year it has been for the Cleveland Browns. This time last year the Browns were coming off of a strong finish to their season, felt their young quarterback was already one of the best in the league, hired an offensive play-caller as their head coach with proven success calling plays and had a GM that had a knack for acquiring incredibly talented players.

Today? The Browns have no GM, yet another new head coach that is a young, innovative offensive play-caller and many people are questioning whether quarterback Baker Mayfield is a bust. It was certainly a very disappointing season for Cleveland after some legitimate playoff and Super Bowl hype to end up with a top 10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

But that could be a real blessing in disguise. This top 10 pick may allow them to address their glaring weakness with a top-tier prospect. One way to help Mayfield get back on top is to keep him upright and healthy. They need a couple of new tackles and a new guard, but a guy like Tristan Wirfs would be a huge addition for this otherwise talented roster.

Wirfs has seen time at both left and right tackle in his time at Iowa, so the Browns could put him on either side that they prefer. As Wirfs played mostly right tackle for the Hawkeyes, the majority of the struggles from the Browns offensive line were on the right side as well, so he may just stay right at home at the next level.

No matter where he ends up playing, Wirfs is going to be able to make an impact. He is a wrecking ball in the run game, paving the way for Nick Chubb in a presumably run-heavy offense brought in by new head coach Kevin Stefanski. He is a big, physical blocker that finishes defenders to the ground on many occasions. He’s also very mobile for his size, able to get to the next level or out in space to affect the game, play after play.

As a pass blocker, Wirfs has already improved greatly throughout his career. He has developed sound technique with quick feet, strong hands and good flexibility. There are a plethora of great pass rushers in the NFL that line up all over the line. So regardless of where Wirfs ends up playing he will be able to have a huge impact on his new team.
