Collin Johnson, Texas

Collin Johnson was talked about as a prospect who could’ve declared for the 2019 draft, but he returned for his senior season to refine his game. At 6’6″ and 220 pounds, Johnson fits the bill as a jump ball receiver who works as a red zone threat. He high points the ball so well and separates with size.

The issue is that Johnson hasn’t enjoyed a lot of production in his career at Texas, and his struggles with route running and his release have prevented a lot of that. If he can show something at the Senior Bowl that he hasn’t most of the year, he could move up significantly in the wide receiver rankings.

Chase Claypool, Notre Dame

Chase Claypool is a lot like Johnson in that he’s a big wide receiver who wins a lot with his size, but there’s a bit more to his game. Claypool has very good body control as well and can adjust to the football. Despite his size, Claypool can work well in the slot too.

The good news is that Claypool produced for Notre Dame (over 1,000 yards, 13 touchdowns in 2019), and even if he is delegated to the slot, he can enjoy the perks of less press coverage. However, it would be good to see more physical play on the perimeter in Mobile.
