2020 Senior Bowl WR Preview: Best group we’ve seen in Mobile?
Van Jefferson, Florida
Van Jefferson might be the most intriguing receiver heading down to Mobile. Jefferson was given high praise by fellow SEC player Kristian Fulton, with Fulton calling him the toughest wideout he faced all season, and it’s easy to tell why.
Jefferson’s dad played in the NFL, and that mentorship shows on tape. He understands how to gain leverage against corners, with a great release at the line of scrimmage. Jefferson can work through press coverage, and his route running is very good too. He gets the “technician” label for sure. The real question for Jefferson in Mobile will be if he can work vertically down the field.
James Proche, SMU
James Proche had another extremely productive season at SMU, catching 111 passes for 1,225 yards and 15 touchdowns. Despite the production, Proche doesn’t have a real dominant trait to show for on tape, but he does a lot of things well.
Proche has good hands and good ball skills down the field, even showing the ability to high point the football working vertically. He works best when running curl/hitch routes, along with succeeding best on out-breaking routes. His best position will be working in space in the slot, so facing press coverage is something teams will want to see.
