2020 Senior Bowl QB Preview: Big week for Justin Herbert, Jordan Love
Shea Patterson, Michigan
Shea Patterson transferred from Ole Miss to Michigan for his junior and senior seasons, and with the receivers the Wolverines had, there were expectations that he’d make the jump and become a big-time draft prospect. Alas, it hasn’t been the case.
Patterson has struggled mightily in his time with Michigan. He has a decent arm and shows the ability to throw on a line outside the numbers. Patterson is also a solid athlete and can pick up yardage on the run.
This is where the positives stop. He trusts his arm way too much and that leads to interceptions. There are times where Patterson stares down his read, which also leads to picks. He isn’t successful under pressure, and often drops his eyes to the rush and doesn’t have a good feel for maneuvering in the pocket.
Despite a subpar season, Patterson did play alright against Alabama, and that could be a building block for him heading into the draft process and the Senior Bowl. He has plenty to work on in Mobile, from processing the defense to showing better accuracy everywhere on the field. He will be an interesting study, and we will see if he can play himself into day three conversation.
