Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma

Jalen Hurts was the third big get for Jim Nagy and the Senior Bowl staff. Hurts enjoyed plenty of success playing for Alabama as a freshman and sophomore but eventually lost his job to Tua Tagovailoa. After the 2018 season, Hurts decided to transfer and ended up landing with Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners. Hurts threw for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns in his final collegiate season and found himself in the Heisman running.

As far as a draft prospect goes, it was cool to see Hurts improve as a quarterback. He was very much run first at Alabama, and struggled mightily with his accuracy and looking beyond his first read. At Oklahoma, he looked much more patient and comfortable in the pocket. Hurts also improved a lot as a passer, especially down the field, as there are quite a few examples of him throwing a pretty deep ball in 2019.

What is he missing as a prospect? For Hurts, he’s still got work to do as a passer. He’s sometimes late getting to his reads, and with a long motion and a ball that floats a little too much at times, we see some bad turnovers. Speeding up his progressions and his motion would help.

In Mobile, Hurts will get players to gravitate toward him because of his awesome leadership skills. Combine that with his improvement and potential development, and I’m sure there will be a team that falls for him in Mobile. He just needs a strong week.
